Solar ~ Lunar

Wheel of the Year ~ 2026

A visual calendar honouring natural time through the Sun’s seasons & the Moon’s phases.

A Calendar Rooted in Natural Time

A Painting by Artist: Rebecca Ruth Goutal

This painting represents natural time as it is experienced here on Earth ~ through the Sun’s seasonal cycles and the Moon’s ever-changing phases.

Living in a fast-paced, pressure-filled modern world, it has become deeply helpful and healing to remember another way of orienting ourselves: pacing life in relationship with the natural environment that sustains and nourishes us.

This calendar is an invitation to return to that rhythm ~ not as an abstraction, but as something visible, cyclical, and lived with day by day.

The Wheel & the Seasons

At the center of this work is the Solar ~ Lunar Wheel of the Year, encircled by intertwining vines and seasonal foliage that move through the full arc of the year.

Each season is visually represented, with plant life and movement shifting as the year turns. Woven throughout the wheel are Gaelic words marking the turning of each season, honoring Gaelic-speaking ancestors who lived in close attunement with the rhythms of land, weather, moons, and tides.

This piece is both a calendar and a contemplative image ~ something to reference, return to, and live alongside.

How This Calendar Works

This calendar brings together solar time and lunar time in one continuous circular form.

Included in the wheel are:

~ The dates and images of each Moon phase for 2026

~ The solar events:

Winter Solstice

Spring Equinox

Summer Solstice

Autumn Equinox

~ The cross-quarter days ~ the turning points between the solstices and equinoxes:

Imbolc

Bealtaine

Lughnasadh

Samhain

~For the cross-quarter days, you’ll notice several dates:

*The circled number marks the solar midpoint ~ the exact halfway point between the solstice and equinox

*A commonly celebrated “folk” date

*Lunar dates, which vary by season:

(This Lunar date concept is based on some knowledge around ceremonial celebrations for Sacred times, such as Samhain, however, I intuited the interpretation below for the other cross quarters.)

- Full Moons for Bealtaine and Lughnasadh (the more outward, lively half of the year)

- New Moons for Imbolc and Samhain (the more inward, quiet half)

The format of this 'Moon Calendar' cannot be found anywhere else.
I created it exactly the way it makes sense to me ~ through years of living, observing, and working with these cycles.

Why I Created This

I’ve been making versions of the Solar ~ Lunar Wheel of the Year calendar every year for over a decade as a practical tool for my own life ~ after over a decade of carrying this way of thinking of time in my mind and heart, I wanted to bring it into visual form so I could deepen my connection and work with it for the in depth attuning needed for planning the intricacies of my Life ~ in a way that is resonant with nature and core to my soul.

This 2026 edition is the first time I’ve brought the wheel fully into an artistic form, weaving image, language, and time together in one piece.

It’s something I personally live with ~ not just something to look at, but something that quietly shapes how I move through the year.

Living With the Wheel

This calendar can be used in many ways:

Printed at home or professionally

Printed on sturdy or art paper

Hung on the wall as an alternative calendar

Used alongside a conventional planner as a seasonal reference

It offers another way of interfacing with time ~ one that is circular, relational, and rooted in the living world.
